Re ITN News 1.30 Tuesday 19/06/07, you said "greatest thing to happen since compulsory seatbelts was the smoking ban". From her ivory tower condescending patronising to her ego. Ask Patricia Hewitt do people who wear compulsory seatbelts drive about polluting and causing carnage with no roof, doors, windscreen etc in their cars to protect them from wind, rain, sleet or snow? Because Mrs Hewitt that’s what your doing to smokers, a hate crime by showing bias to an easily identifiable group, 14 million highly taxed lawful adults dehumanised like animals in a zoo, herded like sheep to outside humiliation butane gas chambers. Make no mistake you are creating hate crimes just as your sanctimonious statement about Faye Tunney one of the hostages captured by Iran, you state it was deplorable the woman hostage should been seen smoking, it sends out the wrong message to our young, but our brave young hero’s can take a bomb or a bullet for their country but passive smoking? Re: the smoking ban 1^{st July 2007.}

The police are over stretched and under resourced. Drugs, muggings, burglaries, car crime, the list is endless. Why are chief constables not telling the government that it doesn’t have the resources for 14 million smokers, who will block fire exits, entrances, highways, loitering outside drinking, noise etc caused not by licensees but by central and local government pushing highly taxed lawful smokers outside to rain, sleet, gales, snow, but worst of all to the stares of passers by who don’t use our pub and to multi agency task forces who will persecute and prosecute licensees, staff and smokers creating flashpoints with smokers, non smokers and the authorities. I lost my 21 year old son, the chief constable tells me we will probably never know how my son Derek died I have it in writing he could have been murdered. My oldest son Hugh, who is bar manager was hit with a bottle by 10-15 under age street drinkers, again I have it in writing, that the police because of a gun incident were stretched and the assaulters could and should have been arrested. In view of this where does this place my family, staff and patrons? What guarantees have we got of a quick responsive back up when dealing with highly taxed lawful smokers? Nicotine is just as addictive as opiates heroin, cocaine etc. My staff and I don’t have the expertise to deal with nicotine addiction, which I consider a disability. This is clearly a hate crime. Human rights state we are not allowed to show bias against identifiable social groups, if putting an invisible stamp and dehumanising lawful adults like animals in a zoo is not a hate crime then hate crimes don’t exist. This government is inciting hate crimes against 25% of the population. I have two bars, why can’t one at least be for everyone? A sign stating "This is a smoking bar, if it offends don’t come in" the same as gay bars. Large chains of pubs make half for every one, half for non smokers. I believe smokers should phone the police if any group shows aggression to their lawful nicotine disability, including confrontational multi task forces. Look at the government adverts telling you to hit a cigarette end with a hammer, throw it in a lake, smash it with a nutcracker, stand on it etc. These fag ends have been enjoyed by lawful adults, its incitement to humiliate, attack, assault, glare and mock adult smokers. It’s also dispersing people from large gatherings to exchange political debate, social life etc. As stated hate crimes are clearly not allowed against political affiliation, disability or bias against an identifiable social group. Could you please explain your police forces stand on these hate crimes. I am a registered political party and my affiliation is to the non persecution of working class smokers. Could you also tell me if you can guarantee my family, staff and patrons safety? As we are the untrained, unarmed people left to deal with the smoking ban which will lead to flashpoints and crime and disorder and even more unmonitored cheap supermarket binge booze drinking, as they puff on as many fags in the house as they can before descending on my and my fellow licensees premises. I have advised all licensees to avoid confrontation and phone their local authority or police force if people light up.
